On Monday 24th June, the RUH are hosting two performances by King Edward’s School String Ensemble in a new collaboration working towards bringing music to the new Cancer Centre.
Twelve pupils from KES will be performing pieces that range from pop song arrangements and classical hits by Vivaldi, through to famous music scores such as The Game of Thrones theme, in a pre-dinner performance in The Atrium at 4.15pm and then a post-dinner performance in the Jubilee Gardens (weather permitting) at 6pm. Patients and their families are warmly invited to come along to either of the performances to enjoy a social and uplifting time away from the wards.
The two performances mark the beginning of a fundraising initiative by KES musicians in collaboration with the RUH’s Art at the Heart campaign and The Forever Friends Appeal. It is hoped that over the next few years, KES pupils will lend their musical talents to events aimed at raising funds for a piano that will reside in the new Cancer Centre at the RUH.
We provide students and emerging musicians the opportunity to gain experience of music facilitation and performance in a health care setting.
If you are a musician and would like to perform at the RUH or if you would like more information about the Soundbite programme please contact Frankie Simpkins (Musician in Residence) firstname.lastname@example.org
